What We Shoot

We shoot clays with a variety of muzzle loading / black powder smooth bore guns (section 2 licensed).

We shoot reproduction matchlocks, that were popular in the 17th century and used in the English civil war. A lit “match” (cord impregnated with saltpetre) is lit and used to ignite powder in the pan.

We shoot reproduction and original flintlocks that were used through the 1700’s and early 1800’s. They are in both sporting styles (single and double) and military muskets – for example, the Brown Bess.

The most common guns we shoot are percussion cap muzzle loading guns – single and double sporting guns, and military muskets. These use caps that fit on nipples at the breach of the gun to ignite the black powder in the barrel.

We some times shoot old breech loading hammer shotguns from the late 1800s / early 1900s, firing black powder cartridges that we reload ourselves.

All the guns we shoot are licensed section 2 firearms. If you want to join the club and shoot with us, we can advise on guns, gun licensing and black powder licensing.
